American Bandstand's 50th … A
Celebration! May 3, 8/7c
|
|
|
A milestone for an
American institution will be marked with American Bandstand's 50th
… A Celebration!, hosted by Dick Clark.
On the anniversary special, Clark will present classic moments from the past, as well as LIVE performances by superstar musical attractions spanning the past five decades, including Michael Jackson, Cher, Alanis Morissette, Brandy, KISS and Stevie Wonder. Also featured will be a "supergroup" comprised of name musicians from all genres and eras, led by Little Richard performing his classic "Good Golly, Miss Molly." Additionally, many top stars from the world of entertainment, including N'SYNC, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, J-Lo and Babyface will make appearances talking about how "American Bandstand" impacted their careers and lives. In 1952 an afternoon dance show began airing on television in the Philadelphia area. In 1956 Clark became the host of that show, and on August 5, 1957, he brought American Bandstand to the national airwaves for the first time. The show aired weekday afternoons and went on to play over 65,000 records (launching a countless number of them onto the bestseller charts) which were danced to by over 600,000 in-studio teenagers. The program went on to log more than 6,000 hours of airtime and present over 10,000 musical guest appearances. Just a few of the musical artists who made their network television debuts or breakthrough performances on American Bandstand were (alphabetically): The Beach Boys, Beastie Boys, Chuck Berry, Blondie, Michael Bolton, Bon Jovi, James Brown, The Carpenters, Neil Diamond, The Doors, Gloria Estefan, Marvin Gaye, Buddy Holly, The Jackson 5, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, LL Cool J, Madonna, Barry Manilow, John Mellencamp, George Michael, Van Morrison, Pink Floyd, Smokey Robinson & The Miracles, Sonny & Cher, Rod Stewart, The Temptations, John Travolta, Ike & Tina Turner, The Village People and Stevie Wonder. International dance crazes such as The Twist, The Hustle and breakdancing were also introduced to the public on the show. Of the many memorable moments from the show, here are a few Clark remembers from the early days:

| KISS Freaks Up Again! | |
|
As you probably noticed we have been unable to update for about two weeks.
I really have no clue as to why, since most emails to the people at Next
Level were always bounced back to me and phone numbers I have for them
don't work anymore. Finally I received an email back after a week of being
down that stated "we are working on it." Last I heard from them
was about a week ago and it wasn't fixed as of yesterday. I would have
given everyone warning before it happened, but I didn't get any advance
notice either. I have just finished moving the site to a REAL web
hosting company. I'll post the information on my fun time for everyone
to read sometime soon. If you know of any
sites that use Next Level or Cyop for hosting you might want to email
them and tell them to start looking for a backup plan.
