KISS To Return to Australia
From: KISSONLINE
March 11 2004

Gene Simmons (vocals, bass) * Paul Stanley (vocals, guitar) * Eric Singer (drums) * Tommy Thayer (guitar)

You wanted the best …….. now you’ve got ‘em back!

Three years after their last sell-out Australian concerts, KISS will be back for a national tour in May. And they’re coming back with a mighty big bang!

With very special guests the mighty Grinspoon and opening with Machine Gun Fellatio, the May tour is going to be one giant night of rock’n’roll mayhem! But that’s not all.

Nearly 40,000 fans experienced the incredible one-off KISS Symphony concert teaming the band with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra at Melbourne’s Telstra Dome in February 2003. Resulting in a huge selling and acclaimed DVD and live CD, the concert was such an amazing experience, the band is keen to do it all over again.

So KISS has invited 12 members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to join the tour in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane for a special 30 minute encore performance. The original arrangements scored by US conductor David Campbell, which married the symphony and rock, were extraordinary and fans who missed out last time are in for a treat.

After KISS Symphony, the band toured the U.S with Aerosmith in one of the highest grossing rock tours of 2003. Gene and Paul have also been working on solo albums due for release soon.

With 32 albums, more than 90 million record sales and every accolade imaginable bestowed upon them, KISS are still rockin’ – it’s that simple. Lineup-wise, Tommy Thayer continues as lead guitarist and Eric Singer who played on the last Australian tour, is back behind the drum kit.

Special guests Grinspoon have sold almost half a million copies of their three albums “Guide To Better Living” (1997), “Easy” (1999) and “The New Detention” (2002) on their way to becoming one of the most hard-working, hottest bands in the country.

Their “Panic Attack” tour last year was a complete sellout, while the “Chemical Heart” single was voted in at #2 in last year’s Triple J Hottest 100. After a break from touring while they record their new album, seeing the Grinners on huge entertainment centre stages will be awesome!

The outrageous and devilishly entertaining Machine Gun Fellatio will kick the evening off in their usual scintillating fashion. With the brand new single “(You’ve Ruined All My) Favourite Songs” crashing onto playlists everywhere, Chit Chat, Pinky and the boys are salivating at the thought of joining KISS. Say no more.

KISS, members of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Grinspoon and Machine Gun Fellatio ………all in one night. Sounds like mayhem to us. Get in quick!

Firestarter Artwork

From: brittm@joancarolgroup.com

This was my entry for the CD character concept contest at "GeneSimmons.com" when it was originally titled "Firestarter". Since the contest was cancelled I assumed that my efforts would not see "the light of day". I thought I'd send it to you to see if you'd be interested in posting it on your web site.

Originally, the information on "GeneSimmons.com" said to create his alter ego. It also stated that the character was the "Dark Knight" to his
character. Gene always said that his stage character was his alter ego, so I keyed in on the description of "Dark Knight", which I interpreted as
nemesis. I chose a female "Firestarter" character, because I assumed
everyone else would choose to do either a creature or male "Firestarter" character.

I used Jessica Alba (Dark Angel TV series) as my model for the face.

Thanks for your consideration.

KISS FAN/COLLEGE DEAN LAUNCHES DOCUMENTARY AT SOUTHERN FILM FESTIVAL
Norfolk, VA. March 22, 2004 - When "girl-next door"/ College Dean,
Colette Shaw, confronted her heavy metal alter ego through her
writing, a film was born...

Living The Fantasy is a 30-minute documentary that resulted from a
collaboration between Colette Shaw and director Randy Wilkins. The
piece documents Ms. Shaw's struggle to find inner peace and
acceptance within a conservative academic community when she
chooses to write a decidedly unscholarly "rock-n-roll novel." The film
portrays both sides of Shaw's personality; including an insider's look
at one of her many visits to a national KISS expo. Shaw will be a
special guest at Old Dominion University’s “Stranger Than Fiction”
Film Festival.

"I won the top student leadership award at my college graduation,"
Shaw says. "I don’t think it surprised anyone that I went on to pursue a career in higher education. The KISS thing, on the other hand, doesn’t make sense to a lot of people. I like to think that I’m the model liberal arts graduate. Writing my novel Won't Get Fooled Again seemed to bring my passions together – music, literature, and now the creative
process of producing a film. I think education is one route toward
making your dreams come true. If not, what’s the point? KISS’s music
has a very similar theme – Go For It! - and it continues to inspire me. I
hope I can bring the same spirit to the students of ODU."

Living The Fantasy will show in the Mills Godwin Building at Old
Dominion University at 3pm on Monday, March 22, 2004. All Old
Dominion Film Festival events are free and open to the public. For
more information visit the KISSfiction website at www.KISSfiction.com.

Featuring special guests BOB KULICK & BILL STARKEY

With Musical Guests ALMOST HUMAN & SHOCK ME

BOB KULICK auditioned for KISS on Jan. 3, 1973, though he (obviously) didn't get the job. He helped in the recording of the Alive II studio tracks. He played on Paul's solo album and performed on tour with Paul Stanley in 1989. He also suggested that Gene and Paul hire his brother Bruce.

BILL STARKEY founded the Kiss Army in Terre Haute, Indiana, when a radio station didn't want to play KISS. (A quote from Gene Simmons: "Bill Starkey kept calling to request our songs, and the deejay said, "We don't do that." Starkey said, "You'd better do it, because by five o'clock, when everybody gets out of school, we're going to surround your beacon with the Kiss Army." The deejay just ignored it--but at five o'clock, there were thousands of kids surrounding this thing. It made the front page of the Terre Haute newspaper; the headline read, KISS ARMY INVADES RADIO STATION, and the KISS Army was born.")

Tickets are $17 in advance or $20 at the door.
