When arriving to the show, fans are greeted down the street by a KISS billboard advertising the show. More advertising as you get to the club outside and inside. No shortage of promotion for this one by the hotel. Of course KISS had a merchandise table that seemed to be doing very well. The line to get into the show spread throughout the casino. Although the line moved quickly and security got fans into the club very quick. The opening band played for about 40 minutes. Very strange opening when they showed all the exits on the main screen. It was a good thing, very weird though. Its very cool they did it, sure wouldn't want another Rhode Island tragedy. KISS took the stage very late I think it was like 9:30 or so before they hit the stage. Hard to remember I was having trouble thinking with bodies stacked on me. There was no pyro, no Gene spitting blood or fire, no risers, etc. If you were there it really didn't matter, it was just a blast seeing them in that kind of setting. Although it wasn't one of the longest shows KISS has ever played it did sound very good. It was kinda weird not seeing Ace in the Spaceman persona, but Tommy Thayer soon made you forget that. It was definitely one of the better shows I have seen since the Reunion Tour in 1996. Paul and Gene were in typical form, always putting on a good show. Set List included: Deuce King of the Night Time World Let Me Go Rock and Roll Shout it Out Loud Firehouse Lick it Up God of Thunder Calling Doctor Love Psycho Circus Strutter 100,000 Years Do You Love Me? Cold Gin I Was Made For Lovin' You Love Gun Partial covers Stairway To Heaven and Angie Black Diamond encores Beth Detroit Rock City Rock and Roll All Night. Not sure if it was the sound system or what, but the tape backing Peter on Beth sounded really off. I think they were trying some new type of background music for it, I don't think the sound system could be that bad. Although throughout the show on my side I could hear the amps cracking every now & then. One of the major downers for the night was the size of the club. Fans that had general admission tickets were packed in like sardines. Its a good thing nothing major happened or it may have turned into a tragic night. I did see one incident that was handled very quickly by the club's security. Kudos to them. Otherwise fantastic show! I had a blast in Vegas hanging out with Keith Leroux, his wife Michelle from kissshop.com and my wife. I have a feeling I will be back soon.

| Behind the Scenes at the KISS Symphony Rehearsal |
|
We stopped outside the Telstra Dome stadium around 3 pm (Thursday 27th February 2003) to hear the KISS Symphony sound check however security guards prevented us from getting a glimpse of the band on stage. Whilst we were unable to see KISS, we were fortunate enough to hear them rehearsing most of the set and were amused by the conversations between the band members as they prepared for the much-anticipated KISS Symphony, scheduled for Friday the 28th of February. Fans from around the world had gathered and were extremely excited about hearing the rehearsals from outside the stadium. It was a real treat! From here we headed back to Melbourne central for a restaurant meal and decided to return later with the hope of hearing more KISS rehearsals from outside the Telstra Dome stadium. An hour or so later when we returned to the stadium we noticed a group of 150 or so fans lined up to enter the stadium. We raced down to join the group of KISS fans and were given pink wristbands, which would authorise our exclusive entry to view the KISS Symphony for the first time in the world! A chance of a lifetime! Upon entering the stadium we realised that the cameras were rolling for the DVD release scheduled for later in the year. We were buzzing with anticipation as the select few raced to the front of the stage for the KISS Symphony rehearsal. We had paid AUD $405 per ticket back in October 2002, yet here we were preparing to see KISS for free…for us that was like someone coming up to us to tell us we'd just won a million dollars! Our dreams were realised as Paul, Gene, Peter and Tommy hit the stage to unleash the most powerful performance yet experienced. The pressure-free, low-key vibe made for an intimate yet awesome full-blown KISS show. We really had to pinch ourselves to make sure we were not dreaming. AMAZING to say the least! This was the stuff my dreams were made of back in 1976, when I first heard KISS on the radio in New Zealand playing "Shout it out Loud". You would never imagine something like this in real. Unbelievable! KISS started off with their unplugged segment playing songs like "Goin' blind" and "Shandi" effortlessly to the "family-like" audience. Peter Criss sang "Beth" and seemed competent yet a little nervous as the audience went wild. Paul Stanley was everything one would expect him to be as he interacted, conversing directly with the audience. He mentioned how lucky we were and how special the night would be for us…he was not wrong there! At one point Paul talked about where fans had travelled from…America, France, Japan and at that moment I shouted out "New Zealand" and in his unmistakeable accent Paul said curiously "New Zealand?". It was a thrill beyond comprehension. With Ace Frehley absent, the fans warmly welcomed Tommy Thayer as they chanted "Tommy, Tommy, Tommy". At one point Paul asked, "how's Tommy doing?", needless to say the fans erupted with affection and enthusiasm. I must say that Tommy did a more than credible job as he delivered the goods without doubt. Although Ace Frehely would have been the fans choice, it was great to see Tommy on stage with KISS doing a fabulous job. Well done Tommy! Personally speaking, I am a BIG Ace Frehely fan and almost called off my trip to Australia when I heard he would not be there but I have to say Tommy Thayer rocked! Gene and Tommy horsed around on stage and the crowd seemed to receive Tommy on both nights, with open arms. It was very cool. Peter tried earnestly to keep up with the pace and it was a thrill to see him back in the hot seat again. Gene was amazing as usual. His "Alive" style costume looked awesome. It was very much like the KISS of old...studs and black leather in my opinion beats the hell out of the larger than life suits seen on previous tours. Paul was nothing less than fantastic. He made us feel like we belonged there...and we did! From the ensemble section to the classic KISS rock show and finally to the full on, no holds barred KISS Symphony spectacle, KISS gave us a very intimate and exclusive chance to see what the world would see the next day. Thank you KISS, you truly are the greatest rock band on the face of this planet. www.stellar-horizon.net strongly recommends you purchase the DVD or CD version when it is released. We think it will be one you will fondly regard as AWESOME! Please visit www.kissonline.com for more information about the KISS Symphony concert….KISS rocks! Thank you for visiting stellar-horizon.net….we are New Zealand's coolest website! See you again soon!
