Mark St. John was born Mark Norton on June 18, 1957 in Anaheim, California. Mark developed his passion for the guitar as a child and spent his days studying his favorite instrument in the styles of classical, jazz, flamenco, rock and reggae. Like Vinnie Vincent before him, Mark spent his younger days giving guitar lessons and playing with local bands until Kiss gave him his big break. Unfortunately, Mark contracted Riter`s Syndrome, a condition that causes pain and swelling of the joints, before completing his recording duties on the `Animalize` album. By the time Kiss was ready to tour Europe, Mark`s condition was so bad that he could no longer play. A replacement guitarist was hired until Mark got better, but his condition worsened and he never returned to the band.
